"After the Fire. We grind to a halt. Immobilised by our new reality we ponder the power of the flame. Fire is complex - as an ecological and anthropogenic process; as a phenomenon upon which we drape innumerable perspectives. Often a single fire stretched across all perspectives - or swings on a long pendulum between two polarities; disaster or renewal?
The opposing values of good and evil. It shines in Paradise. It burns in hell. It can be warmth and in its absence it is cold. It can whisper comfort or it can scream disaster. It is gentleness and it is torture. It is cookery and it is the apocalypse. It is wellbeing and it is respect. It is a tutelary and a terrible divinity. Both the good and the bad. Fire is life and fire is death. As a source of energy and power, the flame gives way to such opposing forces having the ability to travel diverse pathways. As a human race these polarities we share. We stand and we contemplate. We become nostalgic as we embrace the metaphoric flame. Do we burn or do we shine?" - By Gemma Lynch-Memory.
